Best Bibimbab Spots in Korea (From Someone Who Doesn’t Even Love Bibimbab)

Korean food is already popular, and it’s getting even more attention worldwide. And unfortunately? A lot of people only know bibimbab as the “representative” Korean dish. Well… yes, bibimbab is one of the most famous Korean foods, but to be honest, I don’t think it’s the most delicious. That’s why I actually wrote another post titled “No More Bibimbab!” and recommended other Korean foods instead.

But still—whenever someone’s traveling to Korea, they always ask me,
“Can you recommend a good bibimbab spot?”

So even though I don’t think bibimbab is the best Korean food, I do agree that people should try it at least once in Korea. Here are a few recommendations I personally stand behind:

1. Mokmyeoksanbang

Address: 71 Toegye-ro 20-gil, Jung District, Seoul, South Korea

This spot is one of the most famous bibimbab restaurants because of the Michelin guide. It’s located near Namsan Mountain and Myeongdong—two super popular places for travelers. If you’re planning to check those out, this restaurant is a solid option.

They offer a few different types of bibimbab, so even if you can’t handle spicy food, you’ll still have choices. Personally, I really liked the beef sashimi bibimbab. I’ve tried it myself, and it was good enough that I’d go again.

Also, they serve cheese kimchi jeon (Korean pancake with cheese). I definitely recommend sharing that if you’re not eating alone.

Cheese Kimchi Jeon

Just a heads-up: because of the Michelin recognition, it can get busy. Try to go right when they open to avoid a wait.

2. AnGukGoDa

Address: 10 Insadong 14-gil, Jongno District, Seoul, South Korea

If you want to try bibimbab but can’t eat spicy food—and you’re curious about beef sashimi—this place is for you.

It’s in Insadong, a famous area known for traditional Korean goods and old-school architecture. Even the Starbucks sign is in Hangul. If you’re in Korea, you gotta stop by Insadong at least once.

AnGukGoDa is known for their beef sashimi soy sauce bibimbab. Like I said, bibimbab isn’t my top choice for a meal… but this place is an exception.

If you’re unsure about eating raw beef, I get it—but I promise it’s safe here. They also serve bulgogi bibimbab if you want something cooked. I heard their beef soup is solid too, but I haven’t had a chance to try it yet.

3. Jeonju Bibimbab

Jeonju is a city in the southwest of Korea. Most short-term travelers don’t make it there, but if you’re staying longer—or living in Korea—Jeonju is 100% worth a visit.

In Korea, Jeonju is considered the home of bibimbab. I visited a long time ago and had the local version. I haven’t been back recently, but I’ll drop two famous spots my friends recommend (and locals love):

3-1. Hasukyoung Gamasot Bibimbap

Address: 19-3 Jeollagamyeong 5-gil, Wansan-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeonbuk

3-2. Hankookkwan

Address: 425 Girin-daero, Deokjin-gu, Jeonju-si, Jeonbuk, South Korea

I haven’t been to these two yet, but they’re on my bucket list.

4. Hoedeopbap – A Must-Try if You Like Bibimbab

If you liked bibimbab, here’s something similar but different: hoedeopbap. Think of it as a Korean-Japanese fusion version of bibimbab.

It’s rice topped with fresh sashimi, and instead of regular gochujang, they use vinegar gochujang. If you’re a fan of both bibimbab and raw fish, this could be your new favorite dish.

I hope you enjoy your food adventures and don’t end up stuck at some tourist trap restaurant. Hopefully, this post helps you find something legit. Thanks for reading!
